Mario Kart Tour update includes atrocious £39 pack that unlocks Diddy Kong
Nintendo's new Mario Kart Tour update, available now, has rotated in a fresh set of tracks, characters and kart parts to unlock via the smartphone game's gacha-style system. You can also pay up a lot of money and buy several packs upfront, which include popular characters such as Rosalina and Diddy Kong. The price of these packs is largely justified by the lumps of in-game currency they include. The characters bundled with them are just there to give the pack a family friendly face, and a character players will likely want...

Get an Arwing model for a tenner
Ubisoft's Starlink: Battle For Atlas starter pack for Nintendo Switch is now just £10. Alas, the open-world space-exploration shooter wasn't able to revive the toys-to-life concept, but incorporating Star Fox with the Switch version was nothing short of a masterstroke tie-in. Considering Nintendo failed to release its own Arwing amiibo back when it released Star Fox Zero on Wii U, the Arwing model that comes with this starter pack is worth the purchase alone. The game itself isn't bad, though if you want more parts to get the most out of the game then you're going to wind up spending more cash...

Bonanza Bros was the first Mega Drive game I ever played. It was the reason I was interested in the machine in the first place. Today I would put it up there with Quackshot and ToeJam & Earl as one of the handful of games that for me makes that machine so exciting. (I appreciate Gunstar Heroes belongs on this list too, but I had temporarily moved on from video games by the time that came out and I had to discover it much later.) Even now, Bonanza Bros sums up what made 16-bit gaming so astonishing...

A Canadian legal firm is preparing a class-action lawsuit against Epic Games, accusing the developer of "knowingly" creating the "very, very addictive game", Fortnite. "Epic Games, when they created Fortnite, for years and years, hired psychologists - they really dug into the human brain and they really made the effort to make it as addictive as possible," said Alessandra Esposito Chartrand, an attorney with Calex Légal (thanks CBC , Dextero ). NPCs will live or die depending upon your decisions in Death Stranding
Your actions - or lack thereof - can affect the outcomes of some of Death Stranding's NPCs, said creator Hideo Kojima. Addressing fans at the Garage Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, Hideo Kojima revealed that the fate of one particular sick character lies purely on the player, and what you choose to do, or not do, will affect their outcome. "We have a character who lives deep underground. He is sick and needs medicine, and Sam can deliver it," Kojima told the crowd (thanks wccftech via Reddit ). Sources close to Rockstar have reportedly said that between releasing Red Dead Redemption in 2010 and the end of 2013, Rockstar New England spent between a year and 18 months working and...

The 6 best upcoming VR games from Oculus Connect 6
There was thunderous applause at Oculus Connect 6 when Mark Zuckerberg took to the stage for his keynote speech and announced the Oculus Link. I was right there in the audience when this happened and as soon as the doors to the main hall opened, I rushed inside to try the Link out for myself. The Link wasn't...

The Writers Guild of America has confirmed it will not be including a video game writing category in its 2020 awards. "There won't be a Videogame Writing Award in 2020; however, the category will be reinstated when there is a critical mass of videogames covered by the WGA in order to provide a meaningful award selection process," the WGA said...

Hot on the Trails of Falcom, Japan's longest-running RPG developer
Founded in 1981, Falcom is the longest-running RPG developer in Japan, even though it's dwarfed by its closest rivals in terms of size, production values, and international recognition. Today, the company remains a modest size of 62 employees, perhaps attributed to its founder Masayuki Kato, who often joked that he didn't want to make it any bigger because he didn't really like people. But when you've been through nearly four decades facing as much turbulence as the Japanese games industry has, there must be a secret to Falcom's longevity...

A Zelda fan has created an impressive The Legend of Zelda demake video - and it takes the upcoming Breath of the Wild 2 right back to 1999. Modeler and animator The Regressor took Nintendo's Breath of the Wild sequel trailer it showcased during E3 in June and "demade" it - that is, recreated it using N64-style graphics, with era-perfect audio from Vince94 . The video is beat for beat the same as Nintendo's creepy original, which, for reference, is here. And here's The Regressor's demake, which for...

Games can be our time machines
Games can be our time machines
During Eurogamer's 20th birthday celebrations, we talked a lot about gaming memories - games in relation to our personal histories, and games that shaped how game developers think about their own medium. One thing is clear - games are very dear to us on a personal level, and we can chart the rapid evolution and growth of the industry by looking at them. What's more interesting to me is whether at one point, looking back at games, we'll be able to chart changes to society or even humans as a species, the same way we do with all other media, basically...

It's something players have disputed. Fans have pointed to the inherent differences found when matched with those on other platforms, such as the responsiveness of controls, varying frame-rates and visual quality...
